Volunteer Nonprofit Service Association Book Sale

The RPCV Phoenix group has a great community service opportunity.  The VNSA has a HUGE, HUGE book sale every year.  The proceeds from the sale support Arizona Friends of Foster Children Association and Literacy Volunteers of Maricopa County.  The sale takes place at the Arizona State Fairgrounds February 16 & 17.  We are gathering a group to volunteer at the sale on Sunday, February 17, 2013.  If you are interested in volunteering please email Lizzie at lizziekazan@gmail.com no later than Thursday January 31, 2013 with your contact information.  An added bonus is that most books will be half price on Sunday:) For more information about the sale, go to www.vnsabooksale.org

Annual Chili Cook-Off Success

This past Saturday, the RPCV Phoenix group had its annual chili cook-off. We had a great turn out and even greater chilies!  There were eight chilies entered in the contest ranging from mild to spicy and meaty to veggie.  The winning chili was a beef, bean, and bacon number with a runner up of chicken and cheese.  A great addition to the chilies were the many different corn breads. There was a tasty, sweet number as well as a very savory one.  To those who were able to come, thank you!!! For those who were unable to make it out, we have a multitude of events this spring.  The first event is a happy hour in downtown Phoenix this Friday, February 1, 2013 at Rice Paper (www.ricepapereatery.com) starting at 4pm.  Our next event will be a trip up to the wineries in Page Springs on February 16, 2013. We will be meeting at the Deer Valley Park and Ride at I17 and Bell rd at 9am to carpool. Annual Chili Cook-Off 1 Week Away

It is that time of year again, when returned peace corps volunteers gather around and compete for the best chili!!! We will have a variety of categories including meat, vegetarian, and most creative chili. If you don't feel your chili is up to snuff, you are most welcome to bring a side dish to accompany the chilies:) The event is being held at Kelly Ryan's home. For the address you can email me at lizziekazan@gmail.com.  The event is BYO beer/wine/utensils/etc.  A great idea is to bring a muffin tin. That way you are able to sample multiple chilies all at one time! Come hungry!!!
